Differences between the Mahayana and Hinayana Buddhism

Hi Government job aspirants. In this post, I am going to discuss the differences between Mahayana and Hinayana Buddhism. For your convenience, I have noted down the differences in tabular form. Hope this is going to help you in your preparation for UPSC, SSC CGL and other various Govt job examinations.

Hinayana means the smaller vehicle Mahayana means great vehicle
Followed as teaching or philosophy Followed like a religion
Followed mostly in Sri Lanka & S.E.Asia Followed mostly in India, China, Japan, Korea, Tibet
Early texts were written in Pali language Early texts were written in the Sanskrit language
Buddha is considered as a human being Buddha is worshipped like a God
Followers don't engage in idol worship. Followers worship the idol.
